Position Summary:
Summary of Job:
To design, develop, test and maintain PC hosted software for the Test Mobile Logging and Control team.
Design work uses technical documentation and diagramming tools to describe the structure and behaviour of software components. The use of formal methods and CASE tools, particularly UML is likely in the future. Development is in Visual C++ for PC software. Some C# and Java experience would be beneficial.

Essential
Proficiency in Visual C++ in a PC development environment, including debugging
Experience of developing multi-threaded and socket based applications.
Ability to write clear, portable, maintainable and efficient code
Ability and willingness to work methodically within a defined process
Knowledge of software development processes
Highly Desirable
Ability to take responsibility for the software development parts of the project from raising awareness of missing items to creating product builds and releases
Experience of mobile communication (primarily UMTS Layer 1 and Layer 2) products and protocols.
ClearCase, ClearQuest
Experience of real-time embedded software development.
Desirable
Proficiency in software build mechanisms
Experience of ISO9001 quality process and/or CMMI
Knowledge of software analysis and design methodologies (esp UML)
Understanding of product development
Ability to write clear documentation
Background and interest in scientific instrumentation.
Minimum Qualifications and years of Experience:
Essential
Degree qualified with a minimum of 2 years of PC software development experience.
An exceptional more recent graduate might be considered for this role.

Background in Electronics

Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS)
